The Coast of Utopia

A trilogy of linked plays (Voyage, Shipwreck, Salvage) following Herzen, Bakunin, Belinsky and Turgenev and their circles from 1833 to 1868. The Russian intelligentsia argue, love, quarrel and go into exile while the political question of what a free Russia would look like stays open. Premiered at the National Theatre in 2002; held here as one work.
