A Dream of Africa

Camara Laye · 1966 CE · Narrative Non-fiction · West African · Contemporary

Fatoman comes back to Kouroussa after six years in France, to the end of the colonial period and the beginning of the party, where young men who used to farm now carry cards and beat people in the street after dark. He goes to his father's forge and to a marabout, and in a long dream a woman called Dramouss and a black lion appear to him with a promise about what the country will have to go through first. Laye had already left Guinea for good when it appeared; the book was banned there and he never went back.
