A Good Man Is Hard to Find

Flannery O'Connor · 1953 CE · Short Story · Modern / American · Contemporary

A grandmother who wanted Tennessee instead of Florida talks her son into a detour to see a plantation house she remembers, having smuggled her cat into the car in a basket under her valise. The road turns to dirt, the house proves to be in another state, and the car that stops to help carries three men, one of whom the newspapers have been calling The Misfit. O'Connor's most anthologized story and the fullest working of her doctrine that grace arrives by violence.
