Two Washington Post reporters assigned a routine break-in at an office building work the phone book and the doorsteps of frightened bookkeepers, while a source in a parking garage tells one of them to follow the money. Their editors demand a second confirmation on everything and the paper's owners carry the risk. Pakula had the newsroom rebuilt to scale in Burbank down to the wastepaper.
