Chiquita
Espiridiona Cenda, a Cuban woman from Matanzas only twenty-six inches tall, comes to New York in the 1890s and is billed as Chiquita, the smallest woman in the world. The novel builds her life as an imagined memoir through the vaudeville circuit, the high society of the Gilded Age and her own sense of herself. It won the Alfaguara prize.
