Dance Dance Dance

Haruki Murakami · 1988 CE · Novel · Japanese · Contemporary

Four years on, the narrator returns to Sapporo to look for the woman who vanished from his life and finds the shabby Dolphin Hotel replaced by a glass tower with a floor of absolute darkness inside it, where a figure in a sheepskin tells him to keep dancing. Around him accumulate a clairvoyant thirteen-year-old, her photographer mother, and an actor he was at school with. The comedy is thinner than it looks: the subject is what late-1980s Japanese money did to the people inside it.
