Missing Person

Patrick Modiano · 1978 CE · Novel · French · Contemporary

Guy Roland has worked eight years at a private detective agency in Paris with no memory of who he was before one evening in 1965, and when his employer retires he takes on his own case. Old address books, a Russian émigré, a barman and a photograph of a group at a table lead him toward a name, a woman, and a crossing to the Swiss border during the Occupation. It took the Prix Goncourt in 1978.
