Night Rounds
A young man in occupied Paris is paid by a gang of French auxiliaries in a private house off the avenue Foch to get inside a Resistance network, and paid by the network's Lieutenant to report on the gang. He is good at both, being nothing much in himself, and the two sets of names he carries are steadily converging. Modiano's second book, joined with his first and Ring Roads in what Gallimard later issued as the Occupation Trilogy.
