Dances with Wolves
A Union lieutenant decorated for riding a suicidal charge asks for a posting on the frontier, reaches an abandoned outpost, and keeps a journal while he repairs it alone and trades looks with a wolf and with the Lakota camped nearby. He learns the language, rides in the buffalo hunt and meets the white woman the band raised. Costner's picture put subtitled Lakota into a mainstream western and revived the genre commercially.
