A woman from Maranhao loves the poet Goncalves Dias from childhood and follows his life across decades from a distance. The novel works through the Brazilian Romantic poet's career, his travels and the circle of the imperial court. It won the Jabuti Prize for fiction in 2003, and belongs to Miranda's run of novels built around Brazil's nineteenth-century writers.
