Ada or Ardor

Vladimir Nabokov · 1969 CE · Novel · Modern / American · Contemporary

On a planet where Russia occupies North America and electricity is forbidden, two children spend a summer at a country house and work out that their cousinhood is a polite fiction. Their affair then runs across eighty years, four continents and a memoir the elder of them is still revising in extreme old age. Nabokov's longest and least disciplined book, and the one where the prose comes nearest to being an end in itself.
