Ecclesiastes

Hebrew scripture · c. 250 BCE · Scripture · Judeo-Christian · Ancient

A speaker calling himself Qoheleth, king in Jerusalem, reports what he found when he tried wisdom, pleasure, building, wealth and work, and measured each of them against death. The verdict is hevel, breath or vapour, and the counsel is to eat bread, drink wine and do the day's work. 'Vanity of vanities' - scripture's coldest audit of everything under the sun.
