The Sun Also Rises

Ernest Hemingway · 1926 CE · Novel · Modern / American · Modernist

Jake Barnes, a newspaperman in Paris carrying a wound from the war that is never named, drinks through the expatriate cafés with Lady Brett Ashley, who loves him and will not settle for him. The party moves down to Pamplona for the fiesta and the bullfights, where a young matador and a jealous friend pull the group apart. The book that fixed the phrase Lost Generation, from an epigraph Hemingway took off Gertrude Stein and then spent the novel arguing with.
