The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber

Ernest Hemingway · 1936 CE · Short Story · Modern / American · Modernist

On safari in East Africa, Francis Macomber bolts from a wounded lion in front of his wife and his professional hunter, and the three of them go on taking lunch under the awning as though it had not happened. The next morning's buffalo offers the same test a second time. Parts of it are told from inside the lion, and from inside the hunter, so the reader knows more than any one person at the table.
