The Snows of Kilimanjaro
Ernest Hemingway · 1936 CE · Short Story · Modern / American · Modernist
Harry, a writer on safari, lies on a cot with a gangrenous leg from a scratch he did not treat, while the truck that was to fetch him fails to arrive. He picks a quarrel with his rich wife and turns over, in italic drifts, every story he put off writing during the years he lived on her money. The epigraph about a leopard's carcass near the western summit is left unexplained.
