El desbarrancadero
Fernando Vallejo · 2001 CE · Novel · Latin American · Contemporary
A narrator comes back to Medellin to watch his brother Dario die of AIDS and to endure the mother who will outlive her children. He rages at the city, the church and his family in a single unbroken voice that lets nothing pass. Vallejo's Colombian fury here turns from the violence of the streets to the household, and the book is often translated as The Precipice.
