Hamlet
Laurence Olivier · 1948 CE · Film · English · Contemporary
A Danish prince, summoned by his father's ghost to avenge a murder, puts it off through soliloquy, feigned madness and a staged entertainment meant to catch his uncle out. Olivier cut the text hard, dropped Fortinbras entirely, and sent a restless deep-focus camera prowling the bare stone corridors of Elsinore. The first British picture to take the Academy Award for Best Picture.
