Inkarrí
The Spanish cut the head off the Inca king and buried it, but the head is alive underground and is slowly growing its body back, and when the body is whole the Andean world will be turned right way up again. Communities disagree about where the head lies and how near it is to finished, and the disagreement is part of how the story is told. A colonial-era myth of return that took shape after the executions of Túpac Amaru and his eighteenth-century namesake, recorded from Quechua speakers in Puquio and Q'ero by José María Arguedas in the 1950s.
