The Trial of Dedan Kimathi
Ngũgĩ wa Thiong'o · 1976 CE · Play · East African · Contemporary
The Mau Mau field marshal stands in a Nyeri courtroom in 1956, and the proceedings keep breaking open into the forest camps, the settler farms and the four temptations put to him in his cell by banker, priest, politician and soldier. A boy and a girl hawking fruit outside carry a pistol between them. Written with Micere Githae Mugo against the colonial record of Kimathi as a bandit.
