Secret Lives

Ngũgĩ wa Thiong'o · 1975 CE · Short Story · East African · Contemporary

Eighteen stories arranged from village to city and from legend to the present: a barren wife who buys a child, a labourer counting another man's cattle, a strike leader's widow, a Nairobi clerk who has forgotten which language he thinks in. Some were written at Makerere before the first novels. Ngugi's only story collection, which he called his intellectual autobiography.
