Lilies of the Field

Ralph Nelson · 1963 CE · Film · Modern / American · Contemporary

An itinerant handyman stops at an Arizona farm for water and is taken by a group of German-speaking nuns as the answer to a prayer. He means to be paid and move on, and instead finds himself teaching them English, driving them to Mass and being manoeuvred into building a chapel with no money for materials. Sidney Poitier's win made him the first Black actor to take the Academy Award in a leading role.
