M*A*S*H

Robert Altman · 1970 CE · Film · Modern / American · Contemporary

Two drafted surgeons arrive at a field hospital a few miles from the Korean front, operate on casualties in shifts of blood and improvisation, and spend the rest of their time tormenting the regular army officers billeted with them. A loudspeaker announces the day's screenings over a camp of tents, and a rigged football game settles a bet. Altman's overlapping dialogue made a Korean setting read as Vietnam.
