Full Metal Jacket

Stanley Kubrick · 1987 CE · Film · Modern / American · Contemporary

Recruits arrive at Parris Island to be shaved, renamed and drilled by a senior instructor whose verbal invention never runs out, and one heavy, slow private becomes the platoon's collective punishment. The second half follows another of them to Vietnam as a combat correspondent and into the rubble of Hue during Tet. Kubrick built the war on English ground and split the story in two, which critics have argued over since.
