Marcel the Shell with Shoes On
A one-inch shell with a single eye and a pair of sneakers keeps house with his grandmother in a rented bungalow, the rest of their community having vanished when the couple who lived there broke up, and he agrees to let the lodger film him. Fleischer Camp and Jenny Slate first made the character in a 2010 short, not catalogued here, and the feature keeps the improvised interview form while giving it somewhere to go. What critics singled out was the restraint applied to a premise that had every reason to turn cloying.
