My Beautiful Laundrette

Stephen Frears · 1985 CE · Film · English · Contemporary

In Thatcher-era south London a young British Pakistani man takes over his uncle's derelict laundrette and rebuilds it with a former National Front street tough who becomes his lover. Hanif Kureishi's Oscar-nominated screenplay made it a founding work of British Asian cinema and of the Channel 4 film renaissance.
