Nevertheless

Six pieces, the longest of them watching men fight and be blinded for the sake of the Jew, the Black, the Native and the Pole, and arriving at the line that there never was a war that was not inward. Against it stand small stubborn things: a strawberry with a seed on its face, a rubber plant that split a rock, an apple seed whose root became a prop. Moore later called that war poem sincere but not really a poem, just a disjointed protest.
