Pan's Labyrinth

Guillermo del Toro · 2006 CE · Film · Latin American · Contemporary

In 1944 a pregnant woman brings her daughter to a mill in the Spanish hills where her new husband, a Falangist captain, is hunting the last of the maquis in the woods. The girl finds a stone labyrinth behind the house and a faun who tells her she is a lost underground princess with three tasks to prove it. Del Toro's Spanish-language film makes a fairy tale and a partisan war answer to each other.
