Peeping Tom

Michael Powell · 1960 CE · Film · English · Contemporary

A shy focus-puller, raised as the subject of his father's filmed fear experiments, murders women with a bladed tripod while filming their dying terror, and the gentle girl downstairs begins to draw him out. From an original screenplay by Leo Marks, it implicates the audience's own watching so directly that its 1960 reception destroyed Powell's career. Scorsese's advocacy later restored it as a foundational study of cinema and voyeurism.
