Donald Cammell, Nicolas Roeg · 1970 CE · Film · English · Contemporary

A London enforcer who enjoys his violence too much crosses his firm and hides in the Notting Hill house of a reclusive rock star, where mushrooms, wigs and Mick Jagger's Turner dissolve the border between gangster and performer. Cammell cut it like a collage, faces merging mid-frame, and Warner Bros shelved the result for two years in alarm. Borges is quoted on screen and everywhere under it, and the fractured editing became the grammar of Roeg's whole career.
