Sixteen Candles

John Hughes · 1984 CE · Film · Modern / American · Contemporary

A suburban girl wakes on her sixteenth birthday to find her family, consumed by her sister's wedding, has forgotten it entirely. A note naming the senior she likes gets into the wrong hands, a freshman with a bet to settle attaches himself to her, and her grandparents billet an exchange student in her bedroom. Hughes's first as director took teenagers seriously; its exchange-student caricature is the standing objection.
