Solaris

Andrei Tarkovsky · 1972 CE · Film · Russian · Contemporary

A psychologist spends a last day at his father's country house by a pond, then travels to a station orbiting a planet covered by a thinking ocean, where three surviving crew keep to their cabins and will not explain what they see. On his second morning his wife, dead for ten years, is sitting on the edge of his bed. Tarkovsky made it in open argument with Kubrick, against what he called a cold technological future.
