Spring and All

William Carlos Williams · 1923 CE · Poem · Modern / American · Modernist

Blocks of prose arguing for the imagination against copying, their chapter numbers printed wrong on purpose, alternate with untitled verse: a road to the contagious hospital under a surge of blue mottled cloud, the pure products of America going crazy, a red wheelbarrow glazed with rain water beside the white chickens. Williams wrote it the year after Eliot's poem, which he said had wiped out his world like a bomb.
