Still Life
A married suburban housewife and a married doctor, thrown together when he takes a speck of grit from her eye, keep meeting on Thursdays in the refreshment room of a provincial railway station while the counter staff carry on a courtship of their own a few feet away. All five scenes hold to that one room, so the affair is visible only in the minutes between trains. One of ten one-acts Coward wrote for the Tonight at 8:30 cycle, built as a repertory vehicle for himself and Gertrude Lawrence.
