Sunday Morning
A woman takes late coffee and oranges in a sunny chair with a green cockatoo on the rug, and the ease of the morning gives way to a dreaming of the ancient sacrifice and the silent Palestine of blood and sepulchre. Eight stanzas of blank verse ask what she is to give to find her divinity, and answer with weather, the taste of fruit, and a ring of men chanting to the sun. Harriet Monroe cut and reordered it for Poetry.
