The African
J. M. G. Le Clézio · 2004 CE · Narrative Non-fiction · French · Contemporary
In 1948 the author, aged eight, travels from France to Nigeria with his mother and brother to meet the father he has never known, a British army doctor posted to a remote bush station. The memoir sets the child's astonishment at Africa beside a portrait of a stern, withdrawn man who had made his life there. A late statement of the debts of a writer later awarded the Nobel Prize in 2008.
