The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
A gold ring left to a young hobbit by his uncle turns out to be the one its maker needs back, and a wizard sends him east towards a council that appoints nine walkers to carry it to the mountain where it was forged. Their road runs under Moria and into an old forest ruled by an elf queen. Jackson shot three parts continuously in New Zealand, with Weta's crowd simulation and forced-perspective rigs built for the job.
