The Music Room
In the last years of zamindari Bengal, a landlord whose estates the river has been eating away spends what remains of his fortune on classical recitals in his chandeliered music room, refusing to yield precedence to the moneylender building a mansion next door. It adapts Tarasankar Bandyopadhyay's short story Jalsaghar. Made between the Apu films, it fixed the image of a feudal order expiring to the sound of its own connoisseurship.
