The Poetic Edda
Thirty-odd Old Norse pieces copied into a single Icelandic vellum around 1270 and preserved almost nowhere else: a seeress answering Odin on the world's beginning and its end, a wisdom contest in giant country, and a long heroic cycle on Sigurd, a cursed hoard and the vengeance that runs out of it. The verse is centuries older than the book and its makers are unknown. Codex Regius is the source for most of what survives of Norse myth in verse.
