Ragnarök
Norse tradition holds that the gods already know how the world ends: a winter without summer, the wolf loose, the sea-serpent risen, and the giants sailing on Asgard over a bridge that will not hold. Odin, Thor, Freyr and Tyr each go out to meet an opponent named for them long in advance. The doom of the gods foretold and fought anyway; a world burned and reborn green from the sea.
