Tootsie

Sydney Pollack · 1982 CE · Film · Modern / American · Contemporary

An unemployable New York actor with a reputation for arguing auditions in a dress for a hospital soap and gets the part, inventing a sharp-tongued administrator who becomes a national favourite. He falls for his co-star, whose father falls for him, while his roommate and his agent watch the arrangement compound. Pollack and Hoffman played the premise straight and got the decade's smartest comedy about how men are heard.
