Where the Wild Things Are

Maurice Sendak · 1963 CE · Short Story · Modern / American · Contemporary

A boy in a wolf suit makes enough mischief to be sent to bed without supper, and a forest grows out of his bedroom floor until the walls become the world. He sails off through night and day and almost a year to an island of monsters who roll their terrible eyes and gnash their terrible teeth, and they make him their king. Sendak's Caldecott winner was denounced on publication as too frightening for children and has never been out of print.
