Bambi

David Hand · 1942 CE · Film · Modern / American · Contemporary

A fawn learns to walk on ice, to name birds and flowers, and to leave the meadow the moment the herd goes still, growing through one turn of the seasons in a forest where the danger has no face and is just called Man. Live deer were kept on the lot for the animators, and backgrounds stripped to washes of colour after Chinese landscape painting. A commercial disappointment on release, and later a standing grievance for hunters.
