Black Narcissus

Powell & Pressburger · 1947 CE · Film · English · Contemporary

Anglican nuns establish a convent school in a former harem palace on a Himalayan ridge, where the thin air, the wind and the sensuous past of the place work on their memories and vows until one of them breaks. Adapted from Rumer Godden's 1939 novel. Shot entirely in the studio, its Technicolor delirium won Jack Cardiff an Academy Award and made it the summit of British studio artifice.
