The Red Shoes
A young dancer is taken into a touring company by an impresario who tells her that anyone who depends on human love will never be a great artist, then hands her the lead in a ballet made from Andersen's tale of shoes that will not stop. A composer in the same company writes the score, and each man wants all of her. Powell and Pressburger put a seventeen-minute wordless ballet in the middle when British studios wanted realism.
