The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp

Powell & Pressburger · 1943 CE · Film · English · Contemporary

A Turkish-bath scuffle in blitzed London throws General Clive Wynne-Candy back across forty years of soldiering, a lifelong friendship with the Prussian officer who once duelled him, and three women played by the same actress. Churchill tried to suppress it as unpatriotic in wartime. It takes its title from David Low's satirical cartoon walrus-moustached officer and answers the caricature with a whole sympathetic life, and is now widely held Powell & Pressburger's richest film.
