Cannery Row
Mack and the boys live rent-free in a fish-meal shack on the Monterey waterfront and decide to throw a party for Doc, the marine biologist across the street who has done them favours they have no way of repaying. Raising the money means collecting frogs, which means borrowing a truck, which goes the way such plans go. Interchapters keep breaking the comedy open — a suicide found in a tide pool, a Chinese man nobody will look at directly.
