Of Mice and Men

John Steinbeck · 1937 CE · Novel · Modern / American · Modernist

George and Lennie walk onto a ranch in the Salinas Valley carrying work cards and a story they tell each other about a few acres of their own with rabbits on them. Lennie is enormous, gentle and cannot judge his own strength, and the boss's son's wife is bored enough to be friendly to the hands. Written as a play-novelette so that the text could be staged straight off the page, which it was, inside the year.
