Don't Look Now
After their small daughter drowns in a red mackintosh, a couple move to winter Venice, where he restores a crumbling church and a blind psychic insists the child is trying to warn them. Roeg cuts on colour and premonition, so that red flares through the grey city and time slips its order, most famously in a love scene intercut with its own aftermath. It adapts Daphne du Maurier's 1971 story, and stands as the high mark of British horror built from grief rather than shock.
