Dracula
Tod Browning · 1931 CE · Film · Modern / American · Modernist
An English clerk rides to a Carpathian castle to close a property sale and finds a count who casts no reflection and keeps three women in the crypt. The count sails to London, takes rooms beside a sanatorium, and begins calling on the daughters of the house next door. Lugosi's accent and unblinking stare, held in long takes with no score behind them, set the whole studio horror cycle running.
