Farmer Boy

Laura Ingalls Wilder · 1933 CE · Novel · Modern / American · Modernist

Almanzo Wilder is nine on a prosperous farm outside Malone, New York, where the year runs from ice-cutting through sheep-shearing to the county fair, and a boy's whole ambition is to be trusted with a colt. He does a man's share of the haying, eats his way through his mother's table, and waits to be told what he will be allowed to become. Wilder set her husband's boyhood alongside her own, on land long settled where hers was not.
